Hold the Phone–Mr. Fantasy Just Dropped the Best Song and Music Video of the Year

Kate Jakubowski

I miss Riverdale so much! Maybe Mr. Fantasy is just an alternate universe version of Archie and/or KJ Apa? Stranger this have happened on that show.

We interrupt your regular programming to bring you this important announcement. I was originally going to publish my Kate’s Greats for April tonight–but something so incredible dropped I must cover it immediately (Kate’s Greats will return this weekend).

Mr. Fantasy, the Austin Powers-inspired popstar who is definitely not KJ Apa has dropped a new single, “Do Me Right,” with an accompanying music…starring KJ’s former Riverdale co-stars Madelaine Petsch, Lili Reinhart, and Camila Mendes, along with a bunch of other celebrities that I don’t even know what to do. I think this music video has fulfilled every hope and dream I’ve ever had?

There’s Nick Jonas bopping along with Mr. Fantasy on the couch. There’s Dancing with the Star’s Derek Hough, dancing (naturally) with Mr. Fantasy along with his wife, Hayley Erbert Hough. I think Rob Lowe is there golfing??? And Dave Franco is singing in the park with Mr. Fantasy, while a bunch of other celebrities are there who you would see and be like, “oh, it’s that person!”

And that’s not to mention what the ladies of Riverdale are up to in the video. Camila Mendes is there doing yoga. Madeleine Petsch is in a car, covering her laughs while Mr. Fantasy does pelvic hip thrusts in the goofiest pose possible. And Lili Reinhart is at a picnic with Mr. Fantasy, feeding him grapes before she eats a strawberry.

The video is impossible to just describe though–you just have to watch to be fully immersed in the goofy, fun world that Mr. Fantasy creates. Mr. Fantasy is a ray of sunshine, an enigma wrapped in a colorful suit wearing a wig, false teeth and sunglasses. It’s so unserious, yet played so straight–I absolutely know Mr. Fantasy would thrive at the Met Gala when the theme was camp (hey, maybe he’ll make an appearance for the costume art theme this Monday).

And special thanks to “John” (JUST John), who is credited at the end for directing, editing, and filming the video.

Anyways, this is a pretty short post for such BIG news. Obviously “Do Me Right” is going to win Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Music Video at the Grammys while Mr. Fantasy will win Best New Artist and his forthcoming album Fantasyland will win Best Album.

Thank you for tuning into this breaking news announcement. We will be back to our regularly scheduled programming with Kate’s Greats this weekend. In the words of Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly in Devil Wears Prada, that’s all!

Definitely NOT KJ Apa reuniting with Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart. Justice for Barchie! Screenshot via YouTube
